| About the Author |
|
Francis Stuart was one of the most controversial figures in Irish literature. His work as a poet and novelist earned him admission into Aosdana, and he was elevated to the elite title of Saoi in 1996. Shortly afterward, fellow poet Maire Mhac An tSaoi attempted to expel Stuart for making alleged anti-Semitic remarks. Doubts over Stuart's politics dogged his career; the writer made pro-Nazi broadcasts from Berlin during the War, but always denied charges of anti-Semitism.
He produced several volumes of poetry and a number of novels. The autobiographical work, Black List Section H was published in 1971 to widespread acclaim and remains his most well-known work.
